The annual Border Cup Carnival was held on the 4th, 5th and 6th February. This year the 4 team carnival was played in Mt. Gambier. Our opponents were South Australia, South – East Coasters and Hamilton.

Our first game was against a strong South Australian team, who batted first and posted a very respectable 8/196 from their 40 overs. A consistent bowling performance saw Primmer, Limb, Paul Davis and Franklin all take wickets. In the run chase, 5 batters scored 20 or more and we passed their score in the 39th over.

Game 2 was against South East Coasters and we batted first and compiled 8/188 from the 40 overs. With tight bowling and good fielding, the Coasters were never in the game and finished with 9/101. Six of the Geelong bowlers took wickets.

A win in game 3 against Hamilton would allow us to retain the Border Cup. Hamilton batted first and compiled an impressive 8/204, with Davis, Fisher, Franklin and Primmer all taking 2 wickets for Geelong. Although not losing wickets early, the game was always going to be close, and it was up to our returning retiree batters to get us over the line with the last ball of the 39th over.

This carnival was the first time we have had to opportunity to use Frogbox, to enable those back in Geelong to view the action in South Australia.
